With Visual Arts Brampton from its founding in 1986, until her passing in 2007, Bridge Doughty. A long-time resident of Brampton, she exhibited in many of Visual Arts Brampton's shows, both at the Civic Centre Gallery and later the Artway Gallery, both at Bramalea City Centre and then Shoppers World. For many years, Bridget ran the group's still life sessions, opening the space up to those who wanted to draw or paint from a composition of objects. While she declined the opportunity to teach workshops for VAB, she acted as a mentor to some of the artists who participated in these sessions. For these efforts, plus others, Visual Arts Brampton nominated her for a 2003 City of Brampton Arts Acclaim Long Term Service Award, which she recieved in that year's ceremony.
The Golden Pheasant Gallery featured her works June 3 to July 4, 2005 as The Art of Bridget Doughty; it was her first solo show in 20 years, and her last. Her works were featured in various projects throughout the years, including VAB's Sesquicentennial Floral calendar, the ABC Fun Things Book, and as part of a series of art cards.
After her passing, a few of her works were chosen for inclusion in the collection of the Art Gallery of Peel. Her estate chose Big Folio Gallery at the VAB Creative Studios, to sell her remaining artworks.
Selected Awards
She won both the first prize and honourable mention awards through entries into the 1999 Great Canadian Mail Art Show, hosted by Artway; this exhibition received hundreds of international entries. Again in 2004, Bridget won two of three of the Hermes Juror's Choice Awards in the first annual Snail Mail World Postcard Art Show.
